Ayrshire Indoor Climbing Event
Above Adventure, 1 Woodstock Street, Kilmarnock, Ayrshire. KA1 2BE
Ayrshire Cliffhangers are once again running a taster session for LGBTQ+ people new to climbing, or trying to get back into it after a break.
The day will consist of 3 × 2-hour sessions for up to 4 people each session and will include entry fee and equipment hire (shoes & climbing harness). It will be led by 2 volunteer group leaders who are members of the LGBTQ+ community. The group itself originated from a LEAP Sports sponsored event. The event is suitable for people 16 years and older. You must be fit to climb a ladder.
The event will promote physical health and wellbeing and the inclusion and interaction of LGBTQ people in sport and activities with the general population. The Climbing Centre is located in a converted church building, open to the public, and has a very friendly staff group; who are available for advice, information and further training of needed. There is also a cafe on site for food and refreshments.
There is full inclusive access to the building and climbing sessions for less able bodied people are available, but cannot be offered as part of this event.
Climbing has become increasingly popular following the Olympic Games of last year, and the TV show Gladiators. Our aim is to increase LGBTQ visibility and inclusion in this growing sport.
