Come and Try Roller Derby with the Auld Reekie Roller Girls!
We’re excited to announce a taster day as part of the LEAP sports Festival Fortnight!Roller Derby has been one of the fastest growing sports around the world in recent years; Auld Reekie is the largest and highest ranked club in Scotland, with years of experience in teaching people how to skate and play an exciting contact sport on roller skates. Come and spend some time learning about our sport – watch some footage, hear some first hand stories from our skaters and give it a go yourself! We’ll supply skates and full protective equipment (bar mouth-guard).
EVENT TIMES:
12:30 – 12:45 – Arrive, sign in, welcome!
12:45 -13:30 – A chance to talk, ask questions, explore the sport of Roller Derby, watch some skating and hear from some of our skaters about their experiences
13:30 – 14:00 – If you’re putting on skates this is your time to get kitted up! Those not skating can go watch some advanced skaters train
14:00 – 15:00 – Have a go on skates! Our experienced coaches will guide and support you on safe skating techniques, our experienced skaters will be on hand to help keep you upright and introduce you to you the best fun ever!
GENDER STATEMENT:
As a sport we are members of the Women’s Flat Track Roller Derby Association, and we welcome skaters who identify as women, including transwomen; we’re committed to inclusive and anti-discrimination practices in relation to all transgender women, intersex women, and gender expansive participants. Male-identifying people can take on roles as referees and non-skating officials. At ARRG, we constantly strive for inclusivity. People of all gender identities are welcome at this event.

Kit Required
WHAT TO BRING: If you are skating, please bring a pre-moulded mouthguard with you - you can pick them up at any sports store; just follow the instructions. If you’re taking part in the skating, bring some water and some trainers / sports socks to do a small bit of warming up first. WHAT TO WEAR: If you are skating please wear comfortable gym type clothing that you can move around in - shorts, leggings, joggy bottoms; remember you’ll be putting knee pads on. If you’re not skating, wear what you like! EQUIPMENT: If you want to take part in the taster skate session, please either bring your own equipment, or let us know what sizes you need on the sign up form. If you are bringing your own kit, please ensure you have: knee, wrist and elbow pads, with quad skates (not roller blades) and a helmet, along with the mouth guard!
